Tips for Your Photo Session

In case you have never done a professional photo session before, I wanted to give you some helpful tips for being able to get the images you want. First, clothing. You will want to wear either solid colors or simple patterns. Wearing a crazy floral print will not help the focus be on your face. If you are doing a couples or family photo shoot, try wearing color combinations that are neutral or complimentary (like jeans and beige or white shirts). You can even pick one accent color that will really pop in the photos. For example, each person can choose one accessory or clothing item that is red for a Family Christmas Photo. I have borrowed a helpful info graphic to illustrate.

Second, young children. If you are doing a family photo shoot with young children it may take some imagination to get those genuine smiles you are hoping to capture. For babies, make sure they have eaten and taken a nap as close to the photo session time as possible. Bring any beloved toys if they are sentimental or are necessary to keep your children happy. For the slightly older kids, make sure there is something to look forward to so they are not just grinning and bearing it. Have fun during the photo session. Play with your kids. You are likely to get some wonderful candid shots if everyone is relaxed and having fun together.
